Grounded in Culture, Designed for Community

Maliyan Park – Canberra
Client - Redbox Design Group
Designer - David Shaw + Surya Graf
Year - 2024

Context

Maliyan Park in North Watson was developed as a direct response to community input, with strong emphasis on incorporating Ngunnawal culture, supporting everyday recreation and preserving the natural environment. As part of this collaborative effort, Street + Garden was brought in to supply furniture that would seamlessly align with the park’s cultural, aesthetic and functional goals.

Working alongside stakeholders and the Dhawura Ngunnawal Caring for Country Committee, Street + Garden delivered a suite of outdoor furniture that adds comfort, usability and visual warmth to the site. Earth-toned finishes were carefully selected to blend with the endemic plantings and natural surroundings, while allowing the pieces to sit comfortably among the interpretive features and public artworks distributed throughout the space.
